How German Universities Evaluate Your Grades
German universities and uni-assist use the Modified Bavarian Formula to convert international grades to the German grading scale (1.0 to 4.0). This is the standard method recognized across all German higher education institutions.
A German grade of 1.0 is the best possible score, while 4.0 is the minimum passing grade. Most competitive Master's programs at top German universities (TU Munich, RWTH Aachen, TU Berlin) typically require a converted grade of 2.5 or better. Less competitive programs may accept up to 3.0 or even 3.5.
For Indian students with a 10-point CGPA system: a CGPA of 8.5 converts to approximately 1.75 (Good), while a 7.0 converts to about 2.50 (Good). For percentage-based systems, 80% converts to roughly 2.00 (Good).
